Exploring Life as an Ally, Writer, Future Lawyer/Politician

Rachel Dolezal

So one thing that blew up in the media recently was Rachel Dolezal and her lying about being a black woman. A lot of people didn’t understand why this was a topic of discussion, and also compared it to Caitlyn Jenner. Many people also said that she’s done more for blacks than we have for ourselves, which I completely disagree with, and that this shouldn’t be that big of a deal. People pointed out that black women wear blond wigs and weaves and colored contacts so what’s the difference.

My stance is: I’m not discrediting what she does as far as her work, i applaud her for that. but it’s just the fact that people want to claim a culture that is not theirs, you can fight for human rights and not lie about your ethnicity or race. be proud of who you are while you are doing your work. it would be outrage if black people were claiming to be white as well, everything is a two way street. you must know that it is disrespectful to a culture when people who really don’t have anything to do with it want to come in and take pieces of it for themselves, that is not okay, if you like it fine but don’t steal it because you like it. being an ally is a great thing, i am an ally, but i am not claiming to be anything else than what i am. that is untruthful. that is all the issue is, not with her work at all.
